STATEHOUSE (Dec. 19, 2018) – House lawmakers representing Hendricks County are encouraging students who want to learn more about state government to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2019 legislative session.

State Reps. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis), Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon) and Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) host pages each year at the Statehouse. According to Behning, those who are between the ages of 13 to 18 can spend a day participating in legislative activities.

“This learning opportunity provides students the chance to spend the day at our state Capitol and interact with their local leaders,” Behning said. “Throughout the day, pages help staff organize the House Chamber for session, work on age-appropriate tasks, and spend time with lawmakers.”

Steuerwald said while at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, pages will help staff and local legislators, tour government offices, and learn about the legislative process.

“Hendricks County is home to many talented teens who would benefit greatly from a day full of hands-on learning,” Steuerwald said. “This is a great opportunity for students to explore the Statehouse and connect with their state legislators.”

Thompson said student pages receive an excused absence from school and groups can participate together.

“Our page program is an amazing way for young Hoosiers to see how laws are made in Indiana,” said Thompson. “My hope is to meet many students from our community who participate in this unique experience.”
