STATEHOUSE (July 27, 2018) – State Reps. Steve Davisson (R-Salem) and Jim Lucas (R-Seymour) invite local college students and recent graduates to apply for an internship with the House of Representatives for the 2019 legislative session, which begins in January.
Davisson said the House Republican Internship Program is a unique opportunity for college students and graduates to participate in state government and gain valuable hands-on experience. The paid internship at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis takes place during the spring semester and gives students the chance to work one-on-one with state legislators.
“The House internship program gives young professionals the opportunity to grow and gain real-world experience,” Davisson said. “They leave with skills and tools that will effectively help them as they begin their careers.”
Lucas said internship positions are open to college sophomores, juniors and seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates of all majors. He said students can apply for internships in a variety of areas, focusing on legislative, communications and media relations, policy or fiscal policy.
“House interns take a seat right alongside legislative staffers, roll up their sleeves and get right to work,” Lucas said. “It’s an amazing opportunity for them to interact with state officials, media and constituents while learning how state government operates.”
These are full-time positions, Monday through Friday, lasting from January through April. In addition to biweekly compensation of $750, interns can earn academic credit through their college or university, and are eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate or graduate expenses.
