STATEHOUSE (Sept. 27, 2018) — Current high school seniors planning to pursue a degree in education can now apply for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, according to State Reps. Steve Davisson (R-Salem) and Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown).

“The scholarship was established to encourage more high-achieving students to pursue a career in education in Indiana,” Engleman said. “This scholarship gives 200 students attending or planning to attend a university in Indiana $7,500 for four years. I encourage anyone interested in the education profession to apply for this scholarship before the Nov. 30 deadline.”

According to Davisson, applicants must be in the top 20 percent of their high school graduating class or have earned a score in the top 20th percentile on the SAT or ACT. Recipients must commit to teaching in Indiana for five consecutive years upon graduation.

“The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship is a valuable opportunity for aspiring teachers to get a head start financially as they begin their career,” Davisson said. “Teachers are turning our students into future leaders and are an important part of every community. Keeping highly qualified educators in our schools is crucial, and this scholarship encourages the best and the brightest to enter into a rewarding profession.”

Interested students should be nominated by a teacher and submit a nomination form with their application, which is available at ScholarTrack.IN.gov. College students currently studying education may also apply as long as they graduated from an Indiana accredited high school or non-accredited nonpublic high school.
