STATEHOUSE (Nov. 8, 2023) – State funding totaling just over $350,000 is in route to Goodland and Kentland to help make local infrastructure improvements, according to State Reps. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) and Sharon Negele (R-Attica).

State funding is available for local projects through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, including road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements and other items. In total, over 180 towns, cities and counties will receive more than $91 million in state matching grants.

"This grant is a great way for smaller rural communities to tackle larger projects," Aylesworth said. "With additional funding, communities can begin repairs or construction to improve their roadways, and other projects."

Goodland received $204,183 and Kentland received $150,000 in grant funding.

"Thanks to Community Crossings grants, more Hoosier roads, intersections and bridges can get the attention they need," Negele said. "Whether a matter of safety or efficiency, our state's infrastructure requires constant upkeep and upgrades, and these grants help make that happen for communities large and small."

To qualify for the competitive grant, smaller municipalities provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities provide a 50 percent match. State law requires 50 percent of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $1.2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
