STATEHOUSE (Feb. 13, 2018) — State Reps. Bill Friend (R-Macy) and Don Lehe (R-Brookston) honored the Pioneer Junior-Senior High School football team on Monday at the Statehouse for winning the Indiana High School Athletic Association Class A state championship.
After finishing their regular season undefeated, the Pioneer Panthers advanced to the state championship game to compete against the Thunderbirds of Eastern Greene High School. The Panthers secured their state championship title over the Thunderbirds with a final score of 42-14.
“These young folks have put in countless hours between games and practice to make this a reality,” Friend said. “The entire community has come together to support these young men and the coaches, and I am excited to continue this celebration by recognizing their hard work here at the Statehouse.”
In addition to this championship win, the Panthers also secured two second place titles in the past four years.
“The entire team should be proud of what they have accomplished,” Lehe said. “Making it this far was not easy. The Panthers’ hard work paid off and I hope to see many of them come back for a repeat next season.”
