STATEHOUSE (Feb. 20, 2017) – A Burris High School graduate is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Greg Beumer (R-Modoc) and his fellow members of the House of Representatives during the 2017 legislative session.
Seiji Sloan, a resident of Muncie, is the son of Ron and Chikako Sloan. He is a Taylor University graduate who earned a bachelor’s degree in economics.
“Each year I look forward to the legislative session and the interns that will be working with me,” Beumer said. “These bright young minds put in a lot of hard work from late December to early May. Each of them are dedicated to learning and honing skills that will prepare them for the workforce.”
As a fiscal intern, Sloan corresponds with fiscal staff on issues that directly relate to the state’s finances and biennial budget.
“As an intern with the House fiscal department, Seiji is learning firsthand how the state’s budget is crafted and executed,” said State Rep. Tim Brown (R-Crawfordsville), chair of the House Committee on Ways and Means. “We are also working on a comprehensive, long-term road funding plan, and Seiji is learning how important it is to responsibly invest in programs while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars.”
The House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
