STATEHOUSE (Feb. 14, 2025) – State Rep. Shane Lindauer (R-Jasper) authored House Bill 1615 to strengthen the state's military base infrastructure.
Lindauer said this legislation would establish the Indiana Military Base Infrastructure Grant Program, which would fund physical infrastructure projects on current or proposed military bases. This initiative is designed to enhance military readiness, promote economic development and support defense-related industries.
"By further developing these bases, we would not only be supporting servicemembers but also strengthening Indiana's position as a hub for defense operations and technological growth," Lindauer said. "By being proactive with base enhancements Indiana is showing the U.S. Department of Defense that we are invested in military infrastructure. This puts us in a good position to not be affected by the Base Realignment and Closure process."
House Bill 1615 would outline a process for the Indiana Defense Task Force and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation to establish and administer the Indiana Military Base Grant Program. Before any projects can begin, grant funding would need to be approved by the Indiana State Budget Agency.
The legislation would also allow for eligible technology parks that are located within military base enhancement areas and maintain their certification to receive an annual incremental income tax deposit of up to $500,000.
