STATEHOUSE (Oct. 31, 2023) – The Limberlost State Historic Site Visitor Center and Gene Stratton-Porter Cabin will be getting some upgrades with the help of newly approved state funding, according to State Rep. Matt Lehman (R-Berne).
During the 2023 legislative session, Lehman voted in support of the funding as part of the new state budget. The State Budget Committee formally approved releasing over $2.8 million on Friday to support repair, rehabilitation and HVAC projects at historic sites across Indiana, including in Adams County. As part of the funding, also supported by a $1 million private donation, the Limberlost State Historic Site Visitor Center will be repainted and stained, and windows will be replaced and the HVAC system upgraded at the Gene Stratton-Porter Cabin at Limberlost.
"We're fortunate to have Limberlost in our backyard, with the Gene Stratton-Porter Cabin welcoming visitors to step inside and learn more about one of our state's most famous authors and trailblazers," Lehman said. "These projects will help preserve our history so that future generations can visit Limberlost, learn from Stratton-Porter and draw inspiration from this historic site."
Located in Geneva, the Limberlost State Historic Site Visitor Center and Gene Stratton-Porter Cabin is open for timed guided tours Wednesday through Sunday, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Self-guided tours of the Limberlost Conservation Area Nature Preserves are open daily, with trail maps available at the visitors center.
