The Circle of Corydon Award honors Hoosiers who have made remarkable contributions to the betterment of Indiana and its people, demonstrating through life and service qualities exemplified by the state's greatest citizens. Buhler, now 103 years old, is a World War II veteran who fought in the Battle of Normandy, also known as D-Day, as well as the Battle of Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge. The New Jersey native, drafted in 1941 and assigned to be military police, served as a sergeant in the 8th Infantry Division where General George S. Patton ordered him to help procure the equipment and maps necessary for American troops to advance over the Siegfried Line. His service in the military is included in the Congressional Record.
