STATEHOUSE (Jan. 17, 2023) – Jay County lawmakers invite local students to spend a day serving as a House page at the Indiana Statehouse during the 2023 legislative session.
According to State Rep. Matt Lehman (R-Berne), Hoosier students ages 13 to 18 can sign up to page, and assist lawmakers and staff with daily duties while touring the governor's office, the Indiana Supreme Court, and House and Senate chambers.
"Visiting the Capitol and serving as a House page is an exciting and memorable adventure," Lehman said. "While paging, students get to know their peers from around the state and their representatives. I hope to meet young Hoosiers from our community at the Statehouse this session."
State Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) said pages will receive an excused absence from school and can participate in groups, such as Girl Scouts troops.
"The House Page Program is a truly great opportunity for students to see the legislative process play out in a unique way," Prescott said. "Encouraging their interest in public service and state government is a fun part of my day, and I look forward to welcoming young Hoosiers to the Statehouse this session."
Prescott said Hoosiers can visit indianahouserepublicans.com/pageprogram or call 1-800-382-9841 to sign up their student to participate.
Opportunities to page are available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout session, which began on Jan. 9 and must conclude by the end of April. Students are responsible for their lunch, and transportation to and from the Statehouse.
