STATEHOUSE (April 24, 2020) — A pair of students from Adams County pursuing a career in education recently received the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, according to State Rep. Matt Lehman (R-Berne).

Hannah Dull, of Berne, is a graduate of South Adams High School attending Bethel University, and Rebecca Larrabee, of Monroe, is a senior at Adams Central High School planning to attend Indiana Wesleyan University. They will receive $7,500 per year for up to four years to obtain a teaching license.

“Hannah and Rebecca will be able to save thousands of dollars on their higher education expenses, and then share their love of learning with young Hoosiers," Lehman said. "Our students, schools and communities all benefit from having the best and brightest in the classroom, and I look forward to their continued success as they pursue their goal of teaching in Indiana."

More than 350 students applied for this round of scholarships, which are available yearly to 200 top-performing high school and college students who commit to teaching in Indiana for at least five years. The program began in 2017 thanks to legislation Lehman supported.

Lehman said recipients must either graduate in the top 20% of their high school class or earn a score in the top-20th percentile on the SAT or ACT. To continue receiving the four-year renewable scholarship totaling $30,000, students maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and complete at least 30 credit hours per year.

“Congratulations to all 200 students, who are on their way to becoming impactful, future Hoosier teachers,” said Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Teresa Lubbers. “We know these students have the passion and determination to make a difference in classrooms across the state.”

The 2020-2021 application will be available in the fall. Visit LearnMoreIndiana.org/nextteacher for more information.
