STATEHOUSE (Oct. 29, 2020) — State Reps. Don Lehe (R-Brookston) and Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) encourage Logansport High School seniors and families to attend a workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 4, to learn more about financial aid options for students pursuing college.

According to Lehe, INvestEd is offering free guidance on completing and submitting the 2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. To be eligible for state and federal financial aid, students must fill out the FAFSA for universities and colleges to determine which students can receive assistance and the amount of aid. The event begins at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 4, at Logansport High School. Lehe said families should bring tax and income documents of both the parents and students.

"Applying for college or an apprenticeship is an exciting time," Lehe said. "Filling out the FAFSA form is required in order to qualify for state and federal financial aid, and it's the first thing you should complete after applying for college."

At the workshop, students and families can get assistance with the process of filing the FAFSA and can have any other financial aid questions answered as well. VanNatter said INvestEd, an Indiana nonprofit, has been helping families for 40 years understand post-secondary education costs and find ways to pay for college.

"This workshop is free and incredibly informative," VanNatter said. "They will walk you through the filing process step-by-step and help you complete the FAFSA. I encourage every family to attend the workshop. INvestED has been helping families and students for a long time, and they are a great resource."

Hoosier students and parents can speak to an INvestEd expert about questions they have while completing the FAFSA application by calling 317-715-9007. To learn more about INvestEd's work or access free resources and counseling, visit investedindiana.org/literacy.
