STATEHOUSE (Mar. 4, 2026) – Legislation co-sponsored by State Rep. Tim O'Brien (R-Evansville) to provide child care vouchers and increase transparency in state government is heading to the governor's desk.
Senate Enrolled Act 4 would make additional funding available for the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) voucher program by tapping into an existing state fund. CCDF vouchers support low-income Hoosiers seeking access to care. The legislation also strengthens community mental health funding flexibility, supporting accessible, sustainable health care across Indiana.
“At a time when Hoosier families are struggling to find affordable child care, we have a responsibility to act." O'Brien said. “This legislation is about protecting Hoosier families and that starts with making sure our working parents and children have the resources they need.”
O'Brien said the bill directly addresses the need for child care by ensuring additional funding pathways are available so that promised resources are delivered. He added that the bill supports working families and protects Hoosiers by improving fiscal transparency and providing greater flexibility for critical community services.
