STATEHOUSE (April 17, 2024) – State Rep. Cindy Ledbetter (R-Newburgh) recently presented long-time Warrick County Recorder Patricia "Pat" Brooks with the Distinguished Hoosier Award for her nearly 24-year career in public service.
"Pat has a servant's heart and has spent her long career helping improve our community," Ledbetter said. "Her commitment to others and expertise in issues facing local government serves as an example not only to me, but to so many others as well."
According to Ledbetter, Brooks founded the Newburgh Tax Service in 1981, which is now operated by her daughter, Rebecca. Brooks served in elected office as Ohio Township trustee, Warrick County treasurer and as recorder for 16 years.
Brooks also served on the Warrick County Community Foundation, the Southwestern Behavior Healthcare Board, the Warrick County Chamber of Commerce and the Women's Club of Newburgh.
The Distinguished Hoosier Award is one of the highest awards given to Indiana citizens by the governor. It is awarded to those who distinguish themselves by significant contributions to their communities, and whose qualities and actions endear them in the hearts and minds of Hoosiers.
