STATEHOUSE (March 30, 2023) – State Rep. Ryan Lauer (R-Columbus) recently welcomed local students to the Statehouse where they participated in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2023 legislative session.

As pages, the students assisted lawmakers and staff with daily duties, toured offices of all branches of government in the Statehouse, and joined Lauer on the House floor to witness and learn about the legislative process.

"Paging is a great stepping stone into the world of public service," Lauer said. "This program is an excellent learning experience that could generate interest in students to pursue a career in government or even run for office one day."

These area students served as pages from the following area schools during the first half of the 2023 legislative session:

Columbus East High School

Columbus Signature Academy New Tech High School

Columbus North High School

Hauser Junior-Senior High School in Hope

Lauer said page positions are still open for students ages 13 to 18 to sign up and spend a day at the Indiana Statehouse during the 2023 legislation session. Pages will receive an excused absence from school and can participate in groups. Opportunities to page are available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout session, which must conclude by the end of April. Students are responsible for their lunch, and transportation to and from the Statehouse.

Hoosiers can visit indianahouserepublicans.com/pageprogram or call 1-800-382-9841 to sign up their student to participate.
