STATEHOUSE (Oct. 23, 2023) – Ahead of the 2024 legislative session, State Rep. Ryan Lauer (R-Columbus) recently hosted a listening tour of House District 59 to hear from constituents and local leaders about the issues important to them.

Lauer, who represents a portion of Bartholomew County, visited the Columbus Learning Center, an educational center that is home to multiple universities, including Indiana University Purdue University, Ivy Tech and Purdue Polytechnic School. Lauer met with Ashley Dieter, director of finance and operations at the CLC, heard about the school's enrollment numbers and issues facing local students.  During the last legislative session, Lauer crafted legislation, which ultimately went into the new state budget, to provide funding for the CLC, pay of their building debt, and extend their lease.

"I really enjoy hearing from constituents and community leaders about what issues are important to them, and their ideas on how I can help make our area an even better place to call home," Lauer said. "I'm always grateful to receive feedback from those I represent, and these visits are a great chance to have meaningful discussions. As the 2024 legislative session approaches, I encourage constituents to stay connected with me, and share their thoughts and opinions on what matters most."

The Columbus lawmaker also met with Bartholomew County Sheriff Chris Lane to discuss local safety issues and Columbus Municipal Airport Director Brian Payne to see recent investments at the Columbus Municipal Airport. While at the airport, Lauer checked out the cockpit of the newly renovated C-119 "Flying Boxcar" plane and toured parts of the Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum, which displays memorabilia from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

The 2024 legislative session will begin in January and Lauer said he encourages constituents to contact him by calling 1-800-382-9841 or emailing h59@iga.in.gov to share their thoughts and ideas for legislation. Constituents can also visit in.gov/h59 to sign up for Lauer's email newsletters, which provide information about what's happening at the Statehouse and information about helpful state resources.
