STATEHOUSE (Oct. 7, 2024) – The Oct. 31 deadline to apply for an Indiana House Republican internship during the 2025 legislative session is fast approaching, according to area lawmakers.
State Rep. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) said this full-time, spring semester internship is Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and can gain academic credit through their college or university.
"Students who intern at the Statehouse often find many pathways to future careers," Aylesworth said. "No matter your major, this internship can be incredibly rewarding and a great addition to a professional resume."
State Rep. Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) said interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship to complete the application before Oct. 31.
"Whether you are looking to learn more about government or meet industry leaders, Indiana House internships are the perfect place to gain professional experience and expand your network," Olthoff said. "I urge students to apply soon before the Oct. 31 deadline."
State Rep. Hal Slager (R-Schererville) said Indiana House internships include free parking, career and professional development assistance, and enrollment access to an Indiana government class. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
"Students can see first-hand the ins and outs of how our legislative process works in Indiana," Slager said. "Interns also make professional connections, develop new skills and learn from staff."
The program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
