STATEHOUSE (Oct. 3, 2025) – Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Lake County legislators.
These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
"This internship program is such a great way for students to learn about government in a professional setting," Aylesworth said. "The skills they learn at the Statehouse will guide them through their career for years to come."
State Rep. Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.
"As a legislator, I look forward to getting to work with the bright and hardworking students who intern with the House," Olthoff said. "There is no better way to gain new skills and meet industry leaders than during the legislative session."
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. Hal Slager (R-Schererville) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
"From meeting with legislators to learning how policy ideas become law, this internship has something for everyone," Slager said. "I encourage students from all majors to really consider how a House Republican internship can help them in their careers."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
