STATEHOUSE (Jan. 5, 2018) — The Kokomo Schools Corp. recently received a grant to expand early education programs, according to State Reps.  Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) and Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo).

The $100,000 grant, awarded by Early Learning Indiana, will create 86 new openings for pre-K students.

“Enrolling in early education can have tremendous effects on a student’s academic career,” Karickhoff said. “This grant will help provide high-quality preschool education to more children in our community and give them the tools needed to build a strong foundation for learning.”

The funds will be used to purchase classroom materials and support development of five early education locations within the school system.

“Our schools will be able to put this money to good use assisting low-income and at-risk children early on in their education,” VanNatter said.

Early Learning Indiana is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving early childhood education throughout the state. Visit www.EarlyLearningIN.org for more information.
