Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) and Ann Vermilion (R-Marion) provided the following statements in response to today's announcement that General Motors is making $491 million investment to expand and upgrade operations at the Marion Metal Center to support electric vehicle production:
STATEHOUSE (Sept. 15, 2022) – "This is an incredible announcement for the future of Marion and the automotive industry in our state. Indiana is emerging as a global leader in the electric vehicle market, and this expansion builds on an already historic year of investments in EV production. This is another step toward ensuring our local workforce and manufacturers keep the momentum going, and have the tools and technology to maintain jobs held by hardworking Hoosiers," said State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo).
"As a lifelong resident of Marion, I can resoundingly say today’s announcement brings an abundance of pride for community. For 66 years, our community has been honored to call ourselves a 'GM town,' supporting the local UAW 977 team and management of General Motors. Their commitment, efforts and quality workforce helped solidify the decision General Motors made today. Our Marion Metal Stamping Plant is well-positioned to play a key role of both honoring traditional automotive manufacturing while preparing for the future of electric vehicle production in our state. This investment is exciting news, and as the industry evolves, our community will remain a strong partner and embrace innovation.
