STATEHOUSE (Nov. 4, 2016) – State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) presented Charles Michael “Mike” Stegall with the Sagamore of the Wabash Award at the 102nd Annual Celebration of Commerce & Community dinner hosted by the Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce.
“Mike has been one of the Kokomo’s most prominent citizens in both business and community involvement,” Karickhoff said. “He is a veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force and started his career in banking Bloomington.”
Karickhoff said Stegall took a brief hiatus from banking then returned to the industry in Kokomo. He went on to serve as president and fulfilled a career-long dream in helping to charter a new bank for the city – Community First Bank of Indiana. It has grown into the second-largest bank in Howard County.
“He has been dedicated to the local financial industry, as well as completing countless volunteer hours while serving on boards and committees for local non-profit organizations,” Karickhoff said. “His hard work and dedication to the community through his personal and business practices makes him a perfect recipient of the Sagamore.”
The award is the highest honor the governor can bestow and is presented to Hoosiers who have rendered distinguished service to the state, contributing greatly to Indiana’s heritage.
