STATEHOUSE (Jan. 27, 2023) – State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) on Thursday presented a Sagamore of the Wabash award to local reverend and public servant Robert A. Lee.
Karickhoff said Reverend Lee moved to Kokomo in 1981 to serve as lead pastor at Second Missionary Church until his retirement in 2013. Reverend Lee also served in various local government positions like Kokomo's park board for 28 years and as a Center Township trustee for eight years.
"Reverend Lee has gone above and beyond in his various roles serving Kokomo," Karickhoff said. "This award is a reflection of his leadership, mentorship, and compassion for our community and state. I'm thankful to call him a friend and have enjoyed serving with him through the years. It's truly a great honor to have the opportunity to present him the Sagamore of the Wabash."
Karickhoff said Reverend Lee is a Vietnam veteran where he served as a combat medic. Reverend Lee has also been recognized with an honorary degree from Ivy Tech Community College and with the NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dating back to the 1940s, the Sagamore of the Wabash award was created by former Gov. Ralph Gates. It is the highest honor the governor can bestow and is presented to distinguished Hoosiers who have made significant contributions to the state of Indiana.
