STATEHOUSE (Dec. 6, 2018) — State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) was appointed to serve as Speaker Pro Tempore, a leadership position in which he presides over official House proceedings when the Speaker of the House is temporarily unavailable.

Karickhoff had previously served as Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore since November of 2015. He was also reappointed as chair of the House Ways and Means Budget Subcommittee.

“Each budget session brings new challenges, but making smart and fiscally responsible investments is essential,” Karickhoff said. “Under House Republican leadership, Indiana’s economy continues to grow. Lawmakers will work to maintain that momentum while still living within our means and meeting the needs of Hoosiers.”

He will also serve on the House Natural Resources Committee, House Select Committee on Government Reduction and the House Statutory Committee on Interstate and International Cooperation.

Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election. On Jan. 3, House lawmakers will convene at 1:30 p.m. in the House Chamber for the first day of the 2019 legislative session.

Standing committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, can be viewed live online at iga.in.gov. This site also provides committee calendars and meeting agendas.
