STATEHOUSE (Feb. 4, 2019) – State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) recently recognized the Indiana Region of the American Red Cross and its contributions to health and safety with a resolution at the Statehouse.
“For over 100 years, the Red Cross has provided support and assistance to Hoosiers during moments of need,” Karickhoff said. “From disaster relief efforts to supplying lifesaving blood and medical services, the Red Cross serves people who may have nowhere else to go.”
More than 20,000 Hoosiers received CPR/AED, first aid and aquatics safety training last year, according to the Red Cross. Each year, the 3,700 volunteers of Indiana’s Red Cross serve more than 63,000 hours in local communities, working on disaster preparedness, promoting health and safety, and aiding the armed forces.
The Red Cross also held a blood drive Monday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. In Indiana, there is currently a critical need for blood donations as cold and flu season has impacted healthy donors and scheduled blood drives are often canceled due to inclement weather.
“One of the easiest ways to help those in need is to donate blood,” Karickhoff said. “Blood donations save countless lives every year, and during a shortage it is even more important for healthy Hoosiers to donate, regardless of blood type.”
