STATEHOUSE (Nov. 7, 2017) — Eastern High School was among 130 schools honored during Monday’s Indiana Dual Credit Recognition Ceremony at the Statehouse, according to State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo).
The Indiana Department of Education, Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University celebrated the success of these schools, where at least 30 percent of students succeeded in a dual-credit course.
“Offering dual-credit courses provides high school students opportunities to get a head-start on their post-secondary education,” Karickhoff said. “Educators in our community are preparing students for their futures outside the classroom and building a solid foundation on which to launch a career.”
Karickhoff said dual-credit courses provide students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school, potentially saving future tuition costs. Dual-credit courses are taught by high school or college educators at a high school, college or university, or through online courses. These college-level courses are offered by both state and independent colleges and universities.
