STATEHOUSE (Aug. 2, 2018) – Indiana House Republicans are now accepting internship applications for the 2019 legislative session, which begins in January, according to State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo).
The House Republican Internship Program is a unique opportunity for college students and graduates to participate in state government and gain valuable hands-on experience. This paid internship at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis takes place during the spring semester and gives students the chance to work one-on-one with state legislators.
“House Republican interns have an interesting opportunity to showcase their abilities during the fast-paced legislative session,” Cook said. “They can apply and hone the skills and knowledge they picked up in school, which will help them prepare for the workforce.”
Internship positions are open to college sophomores, juniors and seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates of all majors. Students can apply for internships in a variety of areas, focusing on legislative, communications and media relations, policy or fiscal policy.
“Students with previous work experience, like an internship, enter the job market with an edge over their peers by the time they graduate,” Karickhoff said. “Our interns can learn skills not only related to their career interests, but also gain confidence working in a professional setting.”
These are full-time positions, Monday through Friday, lasting from January through April. In addition to biweekly compensation of $750, interns can earn academic credit through their college or university, and are eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate or graduate expenses.
“An internship is a great way to beef up a resume and show future employers that you bring a good set of professional skills to the table,” VanNatter said. “With the House Republican Internship Program, students can obtain work experience, develop new skills, and build valuable connections to help launch their career.”
