STATEHOUSE (May 3, 2023) – Johnson County legislators recently welcomed local students to the Statehouse where they participated in the Indiana House Page Program.

"Participating in the page program is a fun way to learn more about how laws are made and how state government works," said State Rep. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland). "This is a great opportunity for young Hoosiers to get involved."

As pages, the students assisted lawmakers and staff with daily duties, toured offices of all branches of government in the Statehouse, and joined lawmakers on the House floor to witness and learn about the legislative process.

"Pages get to interact with lawmakers and assist them during the legislative session," said State Rep. Robb Greene (R-Shelbyville). "I enjoy seeing local students at the Statehouse and learn more about state history and the lawmaking process."

These area students served as pages during the second half of the 2023 legislative session:

  • Kate Boyce, from Greenwood, attends Greenwood Middle School;
  • Maggie Boyce, from Greenwood, attends Greenwood High School;

"I appreciate local students taking an interest in state government," said State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville). "Their time at the Statehouse serves as a great hands-on learning experience."

State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) said students ages 13 to 18 should consider participating during the 2024 legislative session.

"It's always great to see young Hoosiers from back home come to the Statehouse and get a front row seat to the legislative process," Mayfield said. "The page program offers an exciting way to bring what they're learning in the classroom to life."
