STATEHOUSE (Sept. 5, 2023) – Local lawmakers are seeking interns to join them at the Statehouse during the 2024 legislative session.

According to State Rep. Robb Greene (R-R-Shelbyville), House interns will be paid $900 bi-weekly as they work in downtown Indianapolis during session, which starts in January and concludes mid-March.

"After college, it can be overwhelming to find the right place to land, but internships can unlock rewarding career opportunities," Greene said. "This internship really helps students gain experience, hone their skills and connect to a full-time job."

State Rep. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland) said House internships are open to college students and recent graduates of all majors.

"Interns work alongside legislators and staff on issues and tasks impacting all Hoosiers," Davis said. "Many of our interns have used this experience to launch successful careers in media relations, public affairs, law and more."

Paid, spring-semester intern positions are full time, Monday through Friday, and include free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through the student's college or university. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

"With a House internship, college students and recent graduates will learn a lot while also applying their classroom knowledge in a professional setting," said State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville). "They can use their internship to help launch their careers and make their resumes stand out with employers. With interviews happening right now, it's time to go online and apply."

According to State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville), students can apply for internships in a variety of departments related to their field of study, including legislative operations, policy, and communications and media relations.

"It's always great to see local students take advantage of this opportunity work with lawmakers and state officials in a professional environment like the legislative session," Mayfield said. "For many of them, this internship led to promising careers in both state government and the private sector."

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
