STATEHOUSE (Oct. 10, 2024) – The Oct. 31 deadline to apply for an Indiana House Republican internship during the 2025 legislative session is fast approaching, according to area lawmakers.
State Rep. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland) said this full-time, spring semester internship is Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and can gain academic credit through their college or university.
"Whether you're studying political science, communications or any other field, our internships provide a solid foundation for future success," Davis said. "I encourage students to apply and take advantage of this opportunity."
State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville) said interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship to complete the application before Oct. 31.
"This opportunity is a chance for students to gain real world experience and learn from legislators and staff," Haggard said. "The skills and networks built during this internship can open doors to great job opportunities."
State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) said Indiana House internships include free parking, career and professional development assistance, and enrollment access to an Indiana government class. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
"Interns gain a better understanding of how our state government works while building a strong professional network," Mayfield said. "It's a fantastic steppingstone for anyone looking to launch their career."
State Rep. Robb Greene (R-Shelbyville) said the program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.
"Whether staying in the public sector or moving to a career elsewhere, this internship helps give students a firsthand, work-based experience," Greene said. "I highly recommend Hoosier students take advantage of this opportunity to earn and learn this legislative session."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
