STATEHOUSE (Jan. 5, 2026) – Johnson County lawmakers said Hoosier students who are interested in learning more about state government are invited to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2026 legislative session.
State Rep. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland) said pages can watch the legislative process in person, tour the historic Statehouse building and interact with their state representative.
"Paging at the Statehouse allows students to learn beyond the classroom and see how their state government serves Hoosiers," said Davis, who serves as vice chair of the House Education Committee. "I encourage any student interested in public service to take advantage of this experience."
The full-day program is available for students who are 13 to 18 years old. State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville) said pages are permitted by Indiana law to receive a one-day excused absence from school for their participation.
"Students who serve as pages gain a better understanding of how the General Assembly operates and how their voices can make a difference," Haggard said. "I always enjoy welcoming young Hoosiers to the Statehouse."
State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) said the program offers students a unique experience to learn more about how Indiana's legislature operates.
"This program gives students a meaningful look at how laws are debated and passed," Mayfield said. "It's an excellent opportunity for young Hoosiers to learn more about their state government."
The program begins in January with opportunities every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the legislative session. Eligible students and their parents are encouraged to submit an application corresponding with the date they would like to page. Pages are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on their chosen day, and groups serve together on Wednesdays. "A wide variety of topics and issues are discussed every day at the Statehouse during session, and this program is a great way for young Hoosiers to learn a lot in a small amount of time," said State Rep. Robb Greene (R-Shelbyville). "In just one day, our students will get a taste of Hoosier history, the legislative process, and how their government operates."
Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation to and from the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
