STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2025) – Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program awarded local communities over $2.9 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects, according to Johnson County legislators.
"Well maintained roads and bridges are vital to our local economy, school transportation and for everyday commutes," said State Rep. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland). "These grants will help ensure our cities and towns continue to grow and thrive by investing in much-needed infrastructure projects."
The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program provides local communities funding for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements and other projects. This year, 245 Indiana communities will receive more than $200 million in state matching grants.
Indiana was recently ranked as the best state in the nation for overall road conditions by Consumer Affairs, noting our low rate of traffic fatalities and quality of roads.
Area grant recipients include Franklin ($1.5 million), New Whiteland ($1.3 million) and Princes Lakes ($86,228).
"Infrastructure investment is one of the best ways we can support our communities and prepare for future growth," said State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville). "These grants will help make our local roadways safer and more efficient for all Hoosiers who live, work and travel our area."
State Rep. Robb Greene (R-Shelbyville) said to qualify for funding, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The state requires 50 percent of available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or less. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
"Indiana's roads are one of our state's most well-known qualities, and this funding will help us maintain our reputation as the 'Crossroads of America,'" Greene said. "These investments, both locally and across the state, can have a big impact on all drivers, whether traveling across the state or just down the road."
