STATEHOUSE (Oct. 2, 2025) – Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Johnson County legislators.
These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
"Whether you're studying political science, communications or have an interest in a specific policy area, the House Republican Internship Program has a place for you," Davis said. "Our interns leave with professional skills and experiences that can be applied to a variety of career paths."
State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.
"Interns are a crucial part of the legislative team," Haggard said. "They'll get to work alongside lawmakers and staff and see firsthand how ideas are turned into action."
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
"Our interns play an important role in the work we do every day," Mayfield said. "They gain valuable experience while also making a meaningful difference for Hoosiers in their communities."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
