STATEHOUSE (Oct 21, 2022) – Local lawmakers encourage college students and recent graduates to apply for a paid Statehouse internship before the Oct. 31 deadline.
State Rep. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland) said college sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as recent graduates and graduate students of all majors can apply for an internship with the Indiana House of Representatives. House interns will be paid $800 bi-weekly while working at the Indiana Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis during the 2023 legislative session, starting in January and concluding at the end of April.
"Our internship is a hands-on, fast-paced experience that helps strengthen the skills employers are looking for," Davis said. "This program can open doors to many possibilities, and I encourage interested students and recent graduates to apply before Oct. 31."
State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) said interested Hoosiers should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and complete the application before Oct. 31. Intern interviews are currently taking place to fill positions in legislative operations, policy, and communications and media relations departments.
"Students from a variety of majors can use what they've learned in this internship and apply it in their future careers," May said. "Those seeking an opportunity to strengthen their resume and establish professional contacts should consider applying before the deadline."
"This internship provides hands-on experience in an amazing work environment," said State Rep. John Young (R-Franklin). "If you or someone you know could benefit from such an opportunity, get the application filled out and turned in. Interviews are taking place and spots are filling up quickly."
Internships are full time, Monday through Friday, and include free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through the student's college or university. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
