STATEHOUSE (Oct. 18, 2023) – State Reps. Matt Lehman (R-Berne) and J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) encourage local college students and recent graduates to apply online for an internship at the Indiana Statehouse before the Oct. 31 deadline.
The House of Representatives offers paid spring internships to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors. Interns will receive $900 biweekly while working at the Indiana Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis during the 2024 legislative session, which begins in January and concludes mid-March.
Lehman said interested Hoosiers should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and complete the application before Oct. 31.
"It's very exciting to be at the Statehouse during the legislative session, working in a fast-paced environment with leaders from across Indiana," Lehman said. "Our interns are right in the middle of the action, taking on important responsibilities, and helping legislators and staff. It's a great opportunity, and one that I hope students from our area participate in and benefit from."
Prescott said positions are available in legislative operations where interns work directly with constituents and help track committee activity. The communications department is looking for interns to help write press releases and email newsletters, and work with social media, graphic design and audio/video production. The policy department is also in need of interns to help research, track and analyze legislation.
"Interning at the Statehouse can bring you a wide range of opportunities in your pursuit of a full-time career," Prescott said. "It's important to submit your application before the end of the month and not miss out on this unique experience."
Internships are full time, Monday through Friday, and include free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through the student's college or university. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
