STATEHOUSE (Aug. 28, 2023) – The Indiana State Police Alliance recently presented State Rep. Chris Judy (R-Fort Waynes) the Legislator of the Year Award for supporting state troopers.
Judy serves on the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, as well as the House Ways and Means Committee where he supported salary increases in the new state budget to better compensate state troopers, and help the Indiana State Police recruit and retain officers.
"We need more troopers, and a key piece of that equation is fair and competitive pay, and I believe we made a tremendous step forward this session," Judy said. "I appreciate this recognition and remain committed to supporting those who dedicate their careers to public safety and serving other Hoosiers."
Judy said the state budget, which took effect July 1, includes $75 million for trooper pay raises and a shortened pay matrix so troopers see a significantly faster salary increase throughout their careers.
"Before the legislative session began, Rep. Judy was working with us to draft legislation that would not only raise the pay for the Indiana State Police, but also maintains its competitiveness over time," said Scott Krueger, president of the Indiana State Police Alliance. "Rep. Judy’s knowledge of the issue and willingness to introduce legislation stood out to us, and we appreciated his support."
