STATEHOUSE (June 19, 2020) ― House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers) today released updated 2020 interim study committee appointments in addition to several other committee assignments for members of the Indiana House of Representatives.
Indiana’s part-time legislators work on policy throughout the summer and fall months while the General Assembly is not in session. Members are selected to serve on interim committees, which dive into the state’s top issues, gather testimony and recommend legislation. Huston said several interim study committee appointments were updated to account for member retirements.
“Since session ended, our members have been working hard to help their constituents through an unprecedented pandemic, including sorting through unemployment issues and connecting local businesses to state resources," Huston said. “Their work and the lessons we have all learned will help us as we look at changing and repealing certain laws to help better position Indiana for the future."
The majority of interim committees will begin meeting in August with most of their work concluded by the end of October. The list of assignments for the 2020 legislative interim study committees, and other legislative appointments, is available here.
Huston said while study committees typically meet in-person during the summer and fall months to prepare for the session ahead, lawmakers are considering and testing new procedures to host meetings virtually due to the pandemic. He said details will be released soon, and any new process will remain transparent and open to the public.
