STATEHOUSE (Aug. 24, 2016) — Hamilton County and seven local communities received nearly $5.5 million in state matching grants this week to improve roads and bridges, according to State Rep. Todd Huston (R-Fishers).
This year, Huston supported legislation establishing the state’s Community Crossings matching grant fund, which will provide about $160 million to Indiana cities, towns and counties on a 50/50 matching basis.
As part of the program, Hamilton County received $1 million for road and bridge improvements. In addition, seven local communities were awarded grants, including Arcadia ($193,986), Carmel ($1 million), Cicero ($365,397), Fishers ($1 million), Noblesville ($497,550), Sheridan ($399,669) and Westfield ($1 million).
“Receiving these funds will allow our communities to address some of their immediate road-funding needs,” Huston said. “Though the grants provide short-term solutions to maintaining our roads and bridges, I am looking forward to working on legislation in the upcoming session that will focus on long-term funding for Indiana’s infrastructure.”
On Monday, INDOT announced 102 Central Indiana cities, towns and counties were awarded $47 million through the fund. Projects that are eligible for funding through Community Crossings include road resurfacing, bridge rehabilitation, road reconstruction, resurfacing, and Americans with Disabilities Act compliance in connection with road projects. Material costs for chip sealing and crack filling operations were also eligible for funds.
