Huston: House Republicans pass tax-cut package to help Hoosiers, businesses

Note to the Press – House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers) provided the following statement after House Bill 1002, House Republican's broad tax-cut package, passed the Indiana House of Representatives today and advanced to the Senate. Huston said the legislation delivers direct relief to working Hoosiers by reducing Indiana’s individual income tax from 3.23% to 3%, lowers Hoosiers’ utility bills by repealing the Utility Receipts Tax and encourages new investments by lowering Indiana’s business personal property taxes.

STATEHOUSE (Jan. 20, 2022) – “Indiana is in an incredibly strong fiscal position. In the last year, we've paid down over a $1 billion in debt and now our reserves are expected to hit a record $5 billion. It would be irresponsible to grow government at this time and waste an opportunity to put money back into the pockets of those who earned it. Our House Republican tax-cut package protects our financial future while saving Hoosier workers and businesses about $1.3 billion once fully implemented. I look forward to continuing to work with the Senate to make sure we do what's right by Indiana's taxpayers."
