I can hardly believe its Christmas time again. This time of year can be very busy for some as we rush to find that perfect gift and make sure everything is prepared for Santa’s big arrival. Christmas is all about traditions and giving back to those in need. I would like to share some of my family traditions that we observe during this special time of year.
If you haven’t had a chance yet, I highly encourage you to visit the annual Reynolds Farm Equipment holiday light display which has returned for its 21st year. Located at 12501 Reynolds Drive, right here in Fishers, it’s something that my family enjoys. The event is free, but donations are collected for the Fishers Come-To-Me Food Pantry and the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Indianapolis. The Christmas light show runs through January 1st. Be sure not to miss out!
One of my favorite Christmas Eve traditions is dinner with our extended family and then candlelight service at church. I’m reminded every year the true meaning of Christmas when the candles are lit and everyone starts singing Silent Night. In that moment, all the distractions are set aside, and it is wonderful to just worship the birth of Christ.
On Christmas morning, we open presents, and the kids see what Santa Claus has brought them. Luckily in my family, Santa always has the kids on the "nice" list. Later on, we finish Christmas Day with a family dinner in which we enjoy each other’s company. We use this time to think about the wonderful memories of this and previous Christmas’s and the blessings we have received. This year will be even more special as my sister and her family will be traveling from Texas to join us. We all have our fingers crossed it will be a White Christmas.
As always, the season sheds light on some of the hardships Hoosiers face. If you can, please donate to your local food pantry or spread some Holiday cheer to someone who might be spending the season alone. I’ve learned over the years even the smallest gesture of kindness during this season can go a long way to making someone’s Christmas brighter. This season has brought many joys to our community and from my family to yours I wish you a very Merry Christmas!
