STATEHOUSE (Jan. 14, 2025) – House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers) today released House Republicans' priorities for the 2025 legislative session to protect taxpayers, streamline government and empower Hoosiers.
"Thanks to years of fiscally responsible, conservative leadership, Indiana is well-positioned to craft another balanced, two-year state budget that protects Hoosier taxpayers while making strategic investments for the future," Huston said. "In addition to the budget, House Republicans will focus on efforts to reduce regulations, lower costs for Hoosiers and strengthen our communities."
Uphold Fiscal Responsibility, Streamline Government
- Pass an honestly balanced, two-year state budget that maintains critical investments in education and infrastructure while protecting taxpayers. House Bill 1001, Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton)
- Reduce regulations on K-12 schools to increase flexibility, focus on outcomes and give local communities more control over education decisions. House Bill 1002, Rep. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis)
Reduce Costs, Improve Services for Hoosiers
- Improve transparency and predictability in health care pricing and billing, and provide patients increased access to their health information and more control over their treatment options. House Bill 1003, Rep. Brad Barrett (R-Richmond)
- Ensure nonprofit hospitals act as nonprofit entities focused on delivering health care. House Bill 1004, Rep. Martin Carbaugh (R-Fort Wayne)
- Meet the needs of today's energy economy while reducing costs for Hoosiers by maintaining and growing our generating capacity, including embracing small nuclear reactors (SMRs). House Bill 1007, Rep. Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso)
Strengthen, Grow Our Low-Tax, Low-Cost Hoosier Communities
- Strengthen public safety by providing additional state investment for deputy prosecutors. House Bill 1006, Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers)
- Improve access to housing by expanding the Residential Housing Infrastructure Assistance Program (RIF) to help Hoosier communities finance infrastructure projects that support residential housing. House Bill 1005, Rep. Doug Miller (R-Elkhart)
- Create the Indiana-Illinois Boundary Adjustment Commission to embrace neighboring counties that want to join low-tax, low-cost Indiana, including the 33 counties in Illinois that have voted since 2020 (seven in the November 2024 election) to secede from their high-tax state.
