STATEHOUSE (Dec. 19, 2018) – Local lawmakers encourage students who want to learn more about state government to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2019 legislative session.
“The House page program offers a firsthand look at how state government runs,” said State Rep. Tony Cook (R-Cicero). “Every year, students who participated in the program say it was an excellent learning opportunity, and I hope others can experience it as well.”
Those who are between the ages of 13 to 18 can spend a day at the Statehouse in Indianapolis helping staff and local legislators, touring government offices, and learning about the legislative process.
“The page program provides students with a full day of activities, from delivering important messages around the Statehouse to viewing session live from the House floor,” said State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo). “Students are able to meet their state representative and better understand how their elected officials work on behalf of citizens.”
Student pages receive an excused absence from school and groups can participate together.
“Each session, I look forward to meeting all the pages from our area,” said State Rep. Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo). “The Statehouse offers a unique environment for students to learn about our government outside the classroom. However, openings fill quickly, so I encourage anyone interested to sign up as soon as possible.”
