STATEHOUSE (March. 2, 2022) – The Indiana House of Representatives recently honored State Rep. Sean Eberhart (R-Shelbyville) with a resolution commending his 16 years of service representing House District 57.
Eberhart will retire in November after serving Shelby County and portions of Hancock and Bartholomew counties since 2006. During his time in the General Assembly, Eberhart served as chair of the House Natural Resources Committee and as a member of the House Public Policy Committee.
"When I was first elected, I was told to include my family, especially my kids, in my time here so they could experience some of the cool things that we get to," Eberhart said. "I've included my children in a lot of my policy decisions when I push that green or red button. I would remind myself that my children, and your children, will be in these seats that we're occupying right now. So, to my fellow legislators, please include your family. They are very, very important to the decisions you make in these chambers."
As a lawmaker, Eberhart advocated for Second Amendment rights and supported a law making lifetime carry permits free for Hoosiers. He was instrumental in bringing additional jobs and tax revenue to Shelby County with the opening of the racino, now Horseshoe Indianapolis.
"If you know Sean Eberhart, then you are a friend of Sean Eberhart," said House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers). "Since he first joined the General Assembly, he has been a unifier, and he never shied away from working on both sides of the aisle to accomplish something. This body will deeply miss his dedication and expertise."
Eberhart, a small-business owner, previously served as a member and president of the Shelby County Council, and as the president of the Shelbyville Rotary Club.
He is the proud father of Nathan, Nicholas and Danielle.
