STATEHOUSE – State Representative Kathy Heuer (R-Columbia City) honored Whitko High School students for their showing in the 43rd World Children’s Art Exhibition in the Republic of China, Tapei on the House floor today. Alicia Baxter, Rachel Hippensteel, Abby Marshall, and Jessica Zinsmeister were present for the resolution.
“It is with great pleasure that I honor these fine young women today for their outstanding work in the arts,” said Rep. Heuer. “Whitko High School Art Department and Mr. Daniel Malicki’s continued dedication to fostering unparalleled creative ingenuity among our young Hoosiers are deserving of our recognition and appreciation.”
The 43rd World School Children’s Art Exhibition included artwork from students of 52 countries, with each country allowed only 60 works. Of the 60 selections by the U.S., four were chosen from Whitko High School. The mediums included oil paintings, watercolors, wood-cut prints, pencil sketches, crayon drawings, pastels, collages, etchings, and graphic designs.
“At just 15, all four of these young ladies have an international art competition under their belts,” said Rep. Heuer. “I am confident that they each possess the exceptional talent and drive to ensure a promising future in whatever path they so choose.”
To date, Whitko High School students have received 27 state, 37 national and 154 international awards for their exceptional work.
