STATEHOUSE (Aug. 27, 2024) – Applications to intern with Indiana House Republicans for the 2025 legislative session are now open, according to area lawmakers.

State Rep. Cory Criswell (R-Middletown) said the Indiana House of Representatives offers a spring semester internship at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and work full time, Monday through Friday.

"This is a valuable program for those interested in state government and the legislative process," Criswell said. “The internship helps young Hoosiers make professional connections that can lead to a future career while earning college credit."

State Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) said internships are open to college students and recent graduates of all majors. Interns get free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through their college or university.

"This is a great opportunity for students to build their resumes while gaining real-life work experience," Prescott said. "We know from past interns that this internship can be rewarding and helps jump start a future for many students out there today."

State Rep. Brad Barrett (R-Richmond) said interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

“During session, interns work with state lawmakers and staff using the skills they've gained in college and building on them,” Barrett said. “The program can lead to full-time employment for participating students and new graduates in the public or private sectors.”

The program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.

Indiana House Republican intern recruiters will be available to talk with area students on Sept. 18 at the Ball State University Cardinal Job Fair. Click here to register for the event.

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
