STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2025) – Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program awarded Henry County $1.5 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects, according to Henry County legislators.

The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program provides local communities funding for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements and other projects. This year, 245 Indiana communities will receive more than $200 million in state matching grants.

"Upgrading our roadways not only fixes current issues but also prepares communities for future growth," Barrett said. "Many of our rural areas often need additional support to ensure their roads and bridges are in good shape. By making smart investments now, we’ll create safer, more efficient travel routes that support our communities for generations to come."

Indiana was recently ranked as the best state in the nation for overall road conditions by ConsumerAffairs, noting our low rate of traffic fatalities and quality of roads.

State Rep. Cory Criswell (R-Middletown) said to qualify for funding, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The state requires 50 percent of available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or less.

"Road improvements and repairs have long-lasting benefits for Indiana and I’m very excited to see so many communities receive this crucial funding," Criswell said. "This program helps us build safer, more reliable roads for Hoosiers."

Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.

"These grants are a great way for state and local governments to collaborate to make meaningful improvements," said State Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City). "By enhancing our roads and bridges, we can guarantee safer travel for all Hoosiers."
