STATEHOUSE (Jan. 18, 2023) – Henry County lawmakers invite local students to spend a day serving as a House page at the Indiana Statehouse during the 2023 legislative session.

According to State Rep. Cory Criswell (R-Middletown), Hoosier students ages 13 to 18 can sign up to page and assist lawmakers and staff with daily duties while touring the governor's office, the Indiana Supreme Court, and House and Senate chambers.

"As an educator, I know that students learn well with hands-on experiences, like paging at the Statehouse," Criswell said. "I hope young Hoosiers in our community are able to take advantage of this great program and join our team for a day."

State Rep. Brad Barrett (R-Richmond) said pages will receive an excused absence from school and can participate in groups, such as Girl Scouts troops.

"Students truly become immersed in the legislative process while paging," Barrett said. "They not only learn about how laws are made, but also make connections with representatives and other students from around the state."

State Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) said Hoosiers can visit indianahouserepublicans.com/pageprogram or call 1-800-382-9841 to sign up their student to participate.

"The House Page Program is a truly great opportunity for students to see the legislative process play out in a unique way," Prescott said. "Encouraging their interest in public service and state government is a fun part of my day, and I look forward to welcoming young Hoosiers to the Statehouse this session."

Opportunities to page are available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout session, which began on Jan. 9 and must conclude by the end of April. Students are responsible for their lunch, and transportation to and from the Statehouse.
