STATEHOUSE (Oct. 25, 2024) – The Oct. 31 deadline to apply for an Indiana House Republican internship during the 2025 legislative session is fast approaching, according to area lawmakers.
State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon) said this full-time, spring semester internship is Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and can gain academic credit through their college or university.
"Many of our interns have used this program to launch careers in government and the private sector," Steuerwald said. "Even students who are unsure about their career path can meet industry leaders and learn about a variety of prospects through this internship."
State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) said interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship to complete the application before Oct. 31.
"Working with lawmakers and legislative staff is a great way to build professional contacts, learn new skills and apply your education in a real-world setting," Thompson said. "Interning with Indiana House Republicans is a tremendous resume builder and career starter."
State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville) said Indiana House internships include free parking, career and professional development assistance, and enrollment access to an Indiana government class. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
"This opportunity is a chance for students to gain real world experience and learn from legislators and staff," Haggard said. "The skills and networks built during this internship can open doors to great job opportunities."
State Rep. Becky Cash (R-Zionsville) said the program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.
"Paid internships offering hands-on and rewarding work experiences can be hard to find," Cash said. "The House Republican internship program gives students a solid foundation for their resumes, and helps them develop skills they can use in any profession."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
