STATEHOUSE (Dec. 13, 2024) – Hendricks County lawmakers recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.
House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members' two-year terms. State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon) will serve as a member of the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee. He will also serve on the House Statutory Committee on Ethics and the House Judiciary Committee.
“We have dedicated our support for law enforcement, including a $96 million renovation of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy," Steuerwald said. "We will continue to give them the best training and tools to effectively fight crime.”
State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville) will serve as a member of the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, the House Environmental Affairs Committee and the House Roads and Transportation Committee.
"Supporting our veterans and ensuring safe, efficient infrastructure is critical to Indiana's success," Haggard said. "I'm committed to addressing the needs of our communities and working on policies that make a meaningful difference for Hoosiers."
State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) was reappointed as chair of the House Ways and Means Committee. Thompson said committees are responsible for vetting bills, including hearing public testimony and considering amendments.
"Passing a balanced budget with strong reserves that continues funding critical services for Hoosiers remains my top priority," Thompson said. "We will work with our Senate counterparts and the new governor's administration to maintain these ideals that have made Indiana one of the best states for fiscal integrity and doing business."
State Rep. Becky Cash (R-Zionsville) was appointed vice chair of the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee. She will also serve as a member of the House Education Committee, and House Employment Labor and Pensions Committee.
"Ensuring that our law enforcement, first responders, veterans and their families have the resources that they need both on and off the job is crucial," Cash said. "I'm also looking forward to continuing to support our students, and help hard-working Hoosiers, job creators and economic development."
House lawmakers are scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 for the first day of the 2025 legislative session. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
