STATEHOUSE (Aug. 18, 2022) – The longstanding Leak Farm in Hendricks County recently received a Hoosier Homestead Sesquicentennial Award for being in operation since 1863, according to State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) and State Sen. John B. Crane (R-Avon).
"To endure through decades of change like the Leak Farm is a truly remarkable achievement," Thompson said. "Family farms like theirs deserve this recognition and our gratitude for all they've provided their communities and state."
This farm family was among more than 100 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
"It is always great to see family farms in our district get the recognition they deserve," Crane said. "To be able to thrive for such a sustained period is no small feat, and I look forward to seeing their continued success for years to come."
Farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. Since its inception in 1976, more than 5,800 farms received the designation as Hoosier Homesteads.
