STATEHOUSE (Jan. 6, 2025) – Madison County lawmakers said Hoosier students who are interested in learning more about state government are invited to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2026 legislative session.
State Rep. Cory Criswell (R-Middletown) said pages can watch the legislative process in person, tour the historic Statehouse building and interact with their state representative.
"Pages get to tour the Statehouse and watch the legislative process up close," Criswell said. "Over the years, I’ve met many students through this program whose engagement helped them understand how laws and decisions impact our state."
The full-day program is available for students who are 13 to 18 years old. State Rep. Ethan Lawson (R-Greenfield) said pages are permitted by Indiana law to receive a one-day excused absence from school for their participation.
"I enjoy meeting pages as they bring new energy and perspective to the Statehouse," Lawson said. "Observing the process inspires them to think about their roles in the future."
State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers) said the program offers students a unique experience to learn more about how Indiana's legislature operates.
"Pages see the pace, responsibility and teamwork that go into each legislative day," Jeter said. "Spending time at the Statehouse helps students understand how decisions are made and the work that happens behind each law."
The program begins in January with opportunities every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the legislative session. Eligible students and their parents are encouraged to submit an application corresponding with the date they would like to page. Pages are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on their chosen day, and groups serve together on Wednesdays. Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation to and from the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
